And then they ushered in the New Year!

New Years Eve Kids Party

Pics from Si's New Years Eve Party!

Health lesson plan - that soda pop is the devil. lol.

After researching soda pop for Si's health lesson, it has been decided that soda pop (we just call it pop here in Appalachia) is evil.

Why? Here's some pics below to give you a good idea...

Scary isn't it???

old friends pics

I've been organizing all my print and digital photos lately because I have (truly) thousands upon thousands of them and I'd like to have everything printed out, put into photo albums (in order) and then make each kid their own album. I've come across lots of me and friends over the years so I thought I'd share a few.
Janice is my oldest friend. We met in elementary school and we super tight. This is us when we were 16. She spent much of the summers at my house and mom would take lots of photos... thankfully... cause this one is super cute.

Janice and I in leg warmers. sigh... it was the 80's.

Here I am when I was president of Students Against Drunk Driving (for 4 years mind you. I was kind of a nerd). My best friend here is Karen - top center.

This is me and Carrie (we called her Butt) . I was about 19 or 20, I believe.

The photo below was a year or two later. Butt and I were on our way to a fishing trip (yes.. I LOVE fishing! I was raised at a bait store, mind you) and we thought it would be hilarious to have our photos taken.  And it was.

This is what happens when cousins get together! (and my brother is in front to the right). Jeff is gone now. He's the one I'm "peacing" with. Love you cuz! RIP.

Jane was my BFF all through high school and then for a bit after. She's the one in front of me. The other is her sister (middle) and a friend. As you can see, I was neither blonde nor puffy-headed. And honestly thought I was super plain and boring. lol. We were on our way to party at the Block Party in Athens for Halloween here. I may have been 20 or 21. Not sure which.

This is Chrissy's cousin Brandy. She's a sweetheart.

And then Heather and I from the 90's - both bombed and dancing at a club.
The New Year lies before you like a spot of trackless snow;
be careful how you tread on it for every mark will show!

Paul Revere Never Finished His Ride

We all know about Paul Revere's Ride, right? We all know about how Paul Revere rode from Lexington to Concord to warn the Americans that the British were coming. We all know about how he rode through the streets yelling, "The British Are Coming! The British Are Coming!"

We all know about it; yet it isn't true.

The truth is that Paul Revere never finished that ride that come to be named after him. Paul Revere was stopped by a British patrol on his way to Concord. He never made it!

In fact, he was riding with two other men, only one of whom succeeded in warning the Americans in Concord that the British were coming.

William Dawes also rode with Paul Revere that night. He, too, was stopped by a British patrol. He managed to escape, as did Dr. Samuel Prescott, the third rider.

Revere, meanwhile, didn't escape until much later, and without his horse. He walked back to Lexington and made it there in time to witness part of the battle on Lexington Green.
Dawes, meanwhile, got lost in the dark and never made it to Concord.

Only Dr. Samuel Prescott reached Concord, where he delivered the warning, "The British are Coming!" And when the British came to Concord, the Americans were ready.

Why is Paul Revere famous? Several reasons:
  • He was a well-known figure in the Revolutionary community. He was a silversmith who made lots of things out of silver and sold them to all kinds of people, including the Sons of Liberty.
  • He made the famous engraving of the Boston Massacre that stirred up so much hatred for the British.
  • He was the subject of the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem that became very famous.
