Last year I bought my house. A big, old, roomy country farmhouse that I'm in love with. It needed a LOT of work and we moved in quickly, so we had to move in while working on it, cleaning, fixing things, etc...etc....
Plus, I had accumulated a LOT of stuff over the past 24+ years of being here in Athens county. Not just my stuff, but inherited stuff... and hoarded stuff, my kids stuff, cool stuff I thought I may use someday, and even stuff I forgot I had.
Plus, I had work stuff. Stuff from my photography studio, stuff from my writing career, and... well... just stuff.
I took me nearly 16 months to go through most of it. Yes, I still have studio stuff in storage, but at least it's organized - as is pretty much everything else in my house
My point is, 95% of my stuff has been ditched, donated, or placed. Like I said, this has taken most of the time that I have been here.
The problem with that is - it was taking a lot of my time. Time I could of been doing other things. And now that I'm pretty much finished- my schedule is a bit lighter. I have more time for more things... and to hang out with more people.
I believe your home should be your get-away from the world. That it should reflect who you are (at least, who I am, lol, since I decorated it) and it should be a place of solace, comfort and creative expression.
(I like the saying "Homes are for creative expression - not first impressions!)
My point is, it's nice to have the house part done - for now - which allows extra time here and there for more fun and far more exciting ventures.
I'd much rather spend a weekend with a friend than at home painting, organizing, and cleaning the one remaining carpet.
I still have a lot to do... but for now, it's just nice to have a bit more time for myself.
<this is where I would release a sigh of relief. sighhh....>
