1823 – Stephen F. Austin receives a grant of land in Texas from the government of Mexico.  (and now we have  (and if it wasn't for that, we wouldn't have Texas in the United States. And if we didn't have Texas we wouldn't have the things that came from Texas such as liquid paper (invented by a secretary), Barney the Dinosaur, Fritos corn chips, corn dogs, and Dr Pepper!!)

1861 – American Civil War: Delaware votes not to secede from the United States.

1870 – Construction of the Brooklyn Bridge begins.
