Children usually outlive their parents, but by only two days? Yes, "Little Women" author Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) died less than 48 hours after her father passed away. Amos Bronson Alcott was a reformer, writer and educator who often had trouble earning a living. But the New Englander was "rich" in famous friends, including Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. The Alcott family's finances improved markedly after the Jo March-starring "Little Women" became a best seller in 1868. Father and daughter were also born on the same day (November 29, Amos in 1799).
She died today - March 6, 1888
